What happens when I reach my limit?
When your usage budget runs out, Onyx stops generating AI responses until your budget resets. Your bot stays connected to your Discord server — it just can't answer questions.
What your community sees
When a user asks a question and your budget is exhausted, Onyx will reply with a brief message indicating it's currently unavailable. No error codes or system messages are posted publicly.
What you see
Your dashboard will show your usage at 100% of your plan budget. You'll also receive an email alert as you approach your limit (configurable from your notification preferences), so you're not caught off guard.
Your options
Wait for the reset
Your budget resets automatically each billing cycle. Onyx will resume answering questions without any action from you.
Upgrade your plan
If you're consistently hitting your limit before the cycle ends, it's a signal your community has outgrown your current plan. Upgrades take effect immediately from Dashboard → Billing, and your bot will resume responding right away.
There are no overages
Onyx will never charge you more than your plan price. Once your budget is exhausted, the bot goes quiet — it does not continue running and bill you later.
Hobby plan
The free Hobby plan includes $1 of usage per month. It's designed for small or low-volume communities. If you're hitting the limit frequently, the Starter plan ($20/month) gives you 20× more usage budget.
