What Plex Tickets gets right

Plex Tickets is a serious piece of software. You buy it once, with no subscription and no support window that expires. It runs under your own Discord application, with your own bot name and avatar and no watermark anywhere. Every ticket and every transcript sits in a database you control, and the feature set is deep: transcripts, per-category staff roles and intake questions, claiming, reviews, working hours, and full logging.

One licence also covers more than one Discord server. If you run a network of communities, that is structurally better economics than paying per server, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

The one-time price is not the whole bill

The licence really is one-time. The running costs are not.

You need somewhere to run it. Plex Tickets is a Node application you host yourself, on a VPS or paid bot hosting that has to stay online, and free hosting platforms are not permitted. You need a MongoDB database. For a small server the free Atlas tier covers it, which is fair to say, but it is still an account you create and a database you keep an eye on as transcripts pile up.

Then there is the AI, and this is the part the price tag hides. Plex's AI AutoResponse does not include any AI. You supply your own OpenAI account and API key, you put it in config.yml alongside a model name and a confidence threshold, and you pay OpenAI directly for every answer, on a bill nothing caps. Updates are manual too: back up your config, download the new version, replace the files. Lifetime updates means they keep publishing them. Installing them is yours.

What OnyxBot does instead

OnyxBot is fully managed. No server, no database, no updates, no API key. You add it to Discord, point it at your docs, and publish a panel.

The bigger difference is where answers come from. Plex's auto-responses match a member's question to a reply you wrote yourself, which is a real step up from plain keyword matching but still means you write and maintain every answer. OnyxBot reads your docs and your website, writes the answer itself, and learns from every ticket your staff resolve, so the questions you answer once stop coming back. What it cannot solve it escalates with a written briefing: the issue, what it tried, what it learned about the member, and a suggested next step.

The AI usage is included in the plan, not billed to you by a third party. Free includes $1 of AI usage a month. Pro is $10/mo or $96/yr with $5 a month included, and the spending cap starts equal to your included usage, so overage can never start by surprise.
